We want PizzaExpress to become the benchmark for pizzas in India.

Our objective is to focus on premium casual dining in the Italian restaurant space and to build the most admired western casual dining brand in India. What is the USP of the brand? How is your product different from any other Pizza brand, available in the market?

Pizza Express has over 500 restaurants around the world in 14 different countries. Currently, we have 06 restaurants in Mumbai/Thane, 1 in New Delhi and are now launching out our 1st restaurant in Gurgaon in the Ambience Mall, making it a total of 08 outlets in India. Gourmet Investments Pvt Ltd is a company promoted by the Bharti Family Office. With 18% CAGR and market size of around Rs 9,000 crore by 2018, according to industry estimates, we believe that we are well positioned to partake in this growing industry.įurther, our choice of Italian cuisine is driven by the fact that though presently Indian and Chinese account for half of the preferred cuisines, however Continental and Italian are fast picking up with around 11% market share in a very short span and growing. Tapping the dine-out market therefore was a natural choice given the rapid growth in the segment. Being part of a B2C, customer-centric business house, we understand the dynamics of catering to a retail marketplace. Over 85% people in the age group of 18-35 years visit for fine dining at least once in a month, as per a recent study by MindShift Metrics. With rapid urbanization, increasing double income families and rising income levels, dining out culture is fast catching up with urban India. Q1: What made you to enter the Indian food market? Any specific reason? In an exclusive interview with ET, Mr Sanjay Nandrajog, CEO, PizzaExpress India, talks about the Indian market as well as their USP, and also shares his business outlook. It entered the Indian market in 2012 - in partnership with Gourmet Investments, a company promoted by the Bharti Family Office – and now plans to grow to 50 restaurants in the next 5 years. (Since you’re already going crazy, finish up with the ethereal Buttermilk Panna Cotta for $8 or the Chocolate Marquise Cake for $6.Established in 1965 in London, PizzaExpress operates over 500 restaurants around the world in 14 different countries. The Fennel and Black Olive pizza ($17), done up with fennel and a Calabrian chile vinaigrette, offered a really nice interplay of flavors on the palate.ĭON’T MISS: Benchmark certainly has plenty of healthier dishes - including lots of vegetarian options, many of which can be made vegan - but on a cool late-autumn night, you’ll find plenty of options for pre-hibernation carb-loading too: The crunchy Fried Chicken ($18), served with buttermilk biscuits and gravy, or the Spaghetti Carbonara ($18), with smoked pancetta, pecorino and grana padano cheeses, and plenty of black pepper. (Add sausage or salami to either dish for $4.50 more.)īut if you want to do something more unusual, Benchmark has plenty of options as well, like the creamy-rich salad of farro and Nantes carrots ($9), with chunks of beets and radicchio and a buttermilk dressing that adds just a bit of cool tanginess to the dish. Make a meal for two out of the creamy Benchmark Caesar Salad ($10/14) and the Benchmark Pizza ($15) with housemade tomato sauce, fresh mozzarella and basil on a chewy, puffy crust, or the Baked Whole Wheat Rigatoni ($18), with plenty of kale in the tomato sauce and ricotta melted on top. #Benchmark pizza windows
Towering windows let in plenty of light during the day and give diners a view of the neighborhood’s signature cafe lights at night. The dining room features a broad circular area at its center encompassing both the bar and the wood-fired pizza oven. Our service was warm and friendly throughout the evening, encouraging the kind of settle-in-and-have-that-second-glass-of-wine vibe that makes a place feel like home.
#Benchmark pizza full
THE VIBE: Did I mention it was relaxed? The place was nearly full on a recent Friday night, but it still felt very welcoming and quiet.
